  15. <p>     DIED. JOHN HENRY WEIDNER, 81, Dutch-born resistance leader
  16. during World War II; in Los Angeles. At the brutal peak of the
  17. Nazi occupation of Europe, Weidner organized the "Dutch-Paris"
  18. underground network that smuggled desperate Jews and downed
  19. Allied airmen to the safety of Spain and Switzerland--more
  20. than a thousand rescues in all. His daring earned him medals
  21. from France, Belgium, Britain and the U.S.--and the ultimate
  22. tribute, a 5 million-franc price on his head issued by the Gestapo.
